STATEN ISLAND, NY - Margret Fridriksson (Reykjavik, Iceland/The Commercial College of Iceland) scored a goal and added an assist in her Rider debut and Ellie Sciancalepore (Randolph, NJ) made eight saves as the Rider University women's soccer team earned a 3-2 season-opening win at Wagner Thursday night at Hameline Stadium. With the win, the Broncs move to 1-0 on the season, while Wagner is now 0-1.
Less than four minutes into the game, senior Camryn Dees (Pickerington, OH/Pickerington H.S. North) scored her second career goal off Fridriksson's assist. After Wagner's Madison Carr equalized 10 minutes later, Fridriksson scored off Leonor Alves' (Aveiro, Portugal, Jose Estevao) first-career assist in the 18th minute.
Just over a minute into the second half, Logan Racine (Ottawa, Ontario, St. Dominic (Mo.) scored from 20 yards out for her first-career goal, pushing the Broncs' lead to 3-2. The score remained 3-1 until the 90th minute, when Wagner's Olivia Rubbo found the back of the net. But the Seahawks could draw no closer.
