LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University baseball team finally got on the field after a weekend full of precipitation on the east coast, but the Broncs struggled in the return to action, falling to Marist, 13-1. The Broncs are now 22-21 on the season and 9-7 in MAAC play. The Red Foxes win their eighth-straight game, improving to 26-14 on the season and 14-5 in league play.
The Red Foxes got on the board early and often, scoring one in the second, two in the third, and six in the fourth to build a 9-0 lead.
The Broncs responded in the fourth.
Jack Winsett (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) led off the inning with a single.
Socrates Bardatsos (Ridgefield, NJ/St. Joseph's Regional) followed with a walk. Three batters later,
Brian Skettini (Midland Park, NJ/Ridgewood) singled to load the bases with two outs.
Scott Shaw (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) drew a bases-loaded walk to drive in the run.
The score remained 9-1 into the seventh when a pair of doubles and a single by Marist extended the lead to 11-1. Marist closed out the scoring with another pair of runs in the ninth.
