LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Despite outhitting Canisius 13-9, the Rider University baseball team fell, 4-2, Saturday morning. The Broncs fall to 23-22 overall, and 10-8 in the MAAC. The Golden Griffins improved to 23-21 on the season, and 13-7 in league games.
A two-run home run by Canisius' Trevor Henneman opened the scoring in the top of the second. The Golden Griffins added another pair in the fourth when Mike Steffon hit a two-run double to the fence in center.
The Broncs responded in the sixth.
Brian Skettini (Midland Park, NJ/Ridgewood) legged out an infield single with one out.
Brendan O'Donnell (Malvern, PA/Great Valley) followed with a towering home run that disappeared into the trees beyond the fence in left.
With one out in the ninth,
John Volpe (Sea Girt, NJ/Wall) drew a walk.
Jack Winsett (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) followed with a single through the hole in the right side of the infield.
Socrates Bardatsos (Ridgefield, NJ/St. Joseph's Regional) was hit by a pitch to load the bases, but back-to-back strikeouts by Peyton Consigli closed out the game.

Frank Doelling (Riverside, NJ/Riverside[Rowan College at Burlington County]) got the start for the Broncs, allowing two runs on four hits in 2.2 innings. He walked three and struck out two, taking the loss.

Dylan Heine (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield) followed with 3.2 innings out of the pen. He gave up two runs on five hits. He struck out two and walked two.

Brian Young (Neptune, NJ/Communication) tossed two no-hit innings. He allowed just a single walk and struck out three.

Alec Sachais (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Holy Spirit) recorded a strikeout and two walks to the three batters he faced, neither runner he allowed would score.
