Softball Settles For Split With Drexel Wednesday

Burroughs collects four hits

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ Olivia Burroughs (Escondido, CA/San Pasqual) led the Rider University softball team with four hits as the Broncs split a doubleheader with Drexel Wednesday, winning Game 1, 2-1, before falling in Game 2, 3-0. With the split, the Broncs move to 17-11, while the Dragons are now 18-9.

In Game 1, the Dragons struck first in the third, cashing in a leadoff hit-by-pitch with a stolen base and an RBI single. The Broncs got the run back in the bottom of the fourth, as Grace Stansfield (Philadelphia, PA/William Penn Charter) singled with one out, took second on Burroughs' two-out single and Laneya Wright (Tucson, AZ/Marana) followed with an RBI single up the middle to tie the game at 1-1 after four. Rider would score the winning run in the sixth, as Burroughs led off with a single, took second on a groundout and scored when the throw on Alyssa Ansara's (Waterville, OH/Anthony Wayne) bunt single got away. Anna-Marie Groskritz (Granby, CT/Granby Memorial) closed out the complete-game effort in the circle, pitching around a two-out hit in the seventh.

In Game 2, the Dragons scored once in the third and two more in the fifth and pitcher Brooklyn Daly fired a complete-game, six-hit shutout. The Broncs only got a runner past first base once in the game, loading the bases in the sixth on singles from Ysabellah Otero (New Milford, NJ/New Milford), Stansfield and Burroughs. But Drexel shortstop Jackie Masone made a diving catch on Wright's soft liner to the hole to end the inning.
