RIVERDALE, NY –
Grace Stansfield (Philadelphia, PA/William Penn Charter) and
Olivia Burroughs (Escondido, CA/San Pasqual) led the Rider University softball team with four hits apiece, but the Broncs were swept at Manhattan, 7-1 and 6-3, Sunday afternoon. With the losses, the Broncs fall to 24-20 (8-6 MAAC), while the Jaspers are now 11-24 (5-5 MAAC).
Manhattan scored first in Game 1 with single runs in the second and third innings, before the Broncs got their lone run in the top of the fourth. Burroughs led off with a double, before
Elena Gonzalez's (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge) single put runners on the corners. With one out, a fielding error allowed Burroughs to score. But Manhattan would score another run in the fifth and four more in the sixth to secure the 7-1 win.
In Game 2, Manhattan again jumped out to an early lead with one run in the first and two more in the second. The Broncs cut the deficit to 3-1 in the third on Stansfield's RBI single to score
Kaitlin Vazquez (Howell, NJ/Donovan Catholic [Brookdale C.C.]). But the Jaspers kept the pressure on, scoring two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to push their advantage to 6-1. Burroughs contributed a two-run single in the sixth to score
Lani Moreno (Claremont, CA/Claremont) and Stansfield, cutting the Manhattan lead to 6-3, but could draw no closer.

Jessie Niegocki (Marana, AZ/Mountain View) started Game 1 in the circle and took the loss. She allowed seven runs, five earned, on eight hits and two walks. She struck out four.

Anna-Marie Groskritz (Granby, CT/Granby Memorial) started Game 2 in the circle and took the loss. She allowed three earned runs on five hits in 1.2 innings pitched. She struck out one.

Kathryn Schmierer (Racine, WI/Racine Lutheran) pitched the final 4.1 innings of Game 2, allowing three earned runs on five hits, striking out two.
- Manhattan now leads the all-time series with Rider, 26-20, including wins in each of the last four meetings.
- The Broncs return to action Wednesday, when they make the short trip to Princeton for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.

- Burroughs and Stansfield had four hits apiece to lead the Rider offense. The both scored a run, while Burroughs drove in two and Stansfield had one RBI.
