LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – When fans came out to Sonny Pittaro Field for the Broncs' home opener against Rutgers last Tuesday, they were greeted by an updated look to the familiar confines. A new banner was installed behind the home team dugout on the first base side and a new fence wrap lined the length of the outfield wall, updated to reflect Rider's MAAC Championship and NCAA Regional appearance from a year ago. Beyond the left field fence, stood a brand new scoreboard, giving the update a complete finish.
"We are excited to showcase the rich tradition and history of Rider Baseball with the new branding initiative at Sonny Pittaro Field," said
Brian Keane, Associate Athletic Director for Facilities and Event Operations. "While the branding is consistent with the other athletic venues on campus, we thought it was important to highlight past team success, including last year's MAAC Championship and NCAA Tournament berth. In addition, the new scoreboard completes a much needed refresh to the ballpark."
In addition to the aesthetic changes, new from last year is the addition of a TrackMan system, which was originally installed last summer. TrackMan, the same hardware and software used in all 30 major league ballparks and over 80 minor league parks, provides the team with data such as flight path, velocity, and strike zone location to help the team with where their technique needs development and what steps they need to take to become better.
Originally built in 2005, Sonny Pittaro Field has gone through multiple renovations, most notably in 2011, when a team locker room facility was added adjacent to the field.
