Men's Golf Opens Spring Season at Bash at the Beach

Broncs stand 6th of 15 teams after two rounds

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC – Austin Devereux (Brielle, NJ/Manasquan) led the Rider University men's golf team, shooting a combined four-under par through two rounds (70-68-138, -3, T-8th), as the Broncs sit sixth (284-281-565, -3) out of 15 teams at the Bash at the Beach, hosted by Appalachian State at the Surf Golf and Beach Club.

Louie Giovacchini (Windermere, FL/Windermere) led the Broncs with a two-under 69 in the opening round, a stroke better than Devereux (70). Giovacchini's round featured four birdies and two bogeys. Devereux shot par on 15 of 18 holes in the opening round with two birdies and one bogey. As a team, the Broncs limited damage, with only 13 bogeys and three double bogeys on the round, compared to 17 birdies, shooting an even-par 284.

The Broncs were consistent in the second round, posting 17 bogeys and just one double, compared to 16 birdies and an eagle to shave three strokes off their morning round for a three-under 281. Devereux led the way with a three-under 68, including five birdies and two bogeys. Giovacchini shot a one-under 70, while Rick van der Nat (Noordwijk, The Netherlands/Visser 't Hooft) shot an even-par 71, including an eagle on the Par 5, 532-yard, 5th hole.

Jack Urban (Upper St. Clair, PA/Upper St. Clair) finished a stroke behind van der Nat on the day at 145 (73-72-145, +3), while Connor Bekefi (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) rounded out the Broncs' scores at 147 (72-75-147, +5).

- Troy leads the team scoring at 553 (-15), five strokes ahead of Appalachian State (558, -10). LIU (559, -9), Penn (561, -7) and UConn (563, -5) are also ahead of the Broncs.
- Rider is the only MAAC school competing in the tournament.
- Appalachian State's Ryan Marter leads the individual scoring at -9 (65-68-133).

The Broncs wrap up Bash at the Beach play tomorrow. On deck is the Battle at Rum Pointe, hosted by Iona at Pointe Seaside Links in Berlin, MD, March 26-27.
