Men's Golf Surges to Bucknell Invitational Championship

Urban shoots five-under 65 to lead to final round 281 (+1)

LEWISBURG, PA – Jack Urban (Upper St. Clair, PA/Upper St. Clair) shot a final round 65 (-5) as the Rider University men's golf team shot 281 (+1) to surge to the Bucknell Invitational Championship Tuesday at Bucknell Golf Club. The Broncs finished with a three-round score of 858 (287-290-281) to win the tournament by eight strokes over Robert Morris (866) after trailing the Colonials by two strokes entering the day.

After playing the first five holes of the day at one over, Urban carded three birdies over the final four holes of the front nine and seven birdies between the 6th and 17th holes. Entering the day at five over, only bogey on the 18th prevented Urban from finishing the tournament under par. He finished the tournament at even-par 210 for the three rounds, good for second place.

Rick van der Nat (Noordwijk, The Netherlands/Visser 't Hooft) finished the tournament strong with a two-under 68 to finish tied for 14th at 217 (+7) for the tournament. He was tied with Zander Gibson (Concord, OH/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin), who entered the day tied for the individual lead, but shot 77 Tuesday.

Shooting a three-over 73 and finishing a stroke back of van der Nat and Gibson was Louie Giovacchini (Windermere, FL/Windermere) at 218 (+8, T18th). Connor Bekefi (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) shot five-over 75 for a three-round 225 (+15, T50th) and playing as an individual, Michael McCrone (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) shot two-over 72 to finish at 223 (+13, T41st).

- After sitting tied atop the team leaderboard with Robert Morris following the first round, the Colonials shot 288 to take a two-stroke lead heading into the final round. But Rider surged ahead with a 281 Tuesday to Robert Morris' 291. The Colonials still finished second at 866, five strokes ahead of Holy Cross (871).  
- Urban's 65 (-5) is the lowest score by a Bronc in more than five years. Giovacchini's 66 was the next-closest and only round better to par (-6) in the span.
- The Broncs were one of five MAAC schools in competition, joining Mount St. Mary's (873, +33, 4th), Niagara (888, +48, 12th), Saint Peter's (902, +62, 15th) and Canisius (920, +80, 17th).  
- Rider finished the tournament with the top scores on the Par 3's (3.19, +14), Par 4's (4.17, +25) and Par 5's (4.96, -2).
- The Broncs had a tournament-best 44 birdies.
- Gibson led the Broncs on the Par 3's, shooting one under for the tournament.
- Urban tied for the top score on the Par 5's (-4) and had the second-best score on the Par 4's (Even).
- Gibson's 14 birdies were the most in the tournament, while Urban's 11 tied for fourth-most.
