Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Fisher Leads Offensive Explosion in Women's Soccer Victory

The Broncs topped St. Francis Brooklyn, 4-2, Wednesday night.

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Chloe Fisher (Warrington, England/Cronton Sixth Form College [Kansas State]) led an offensive explosion, playing a part in all four goals as the Rider University women's soccer team secured their first win of the 2021 season against St. Francis Brooklyn, 4-2, Wednesday night at Ben Cohen Field. Makenzie Rodrigues (Seattle, WA/Forest Ridge) scored twice and  Emily Delusi (Philadephia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) added a goal for the Broncs in the victory. With the win, the Broncs improve to 1-1, while the Terriers are now 1-2.

Fisher kicked off the scoring for the Broncs tonight in the 11th minute, receiving a cross from Lindsey Maslow (Hanover, MA/Hanover) that put her behind the defense and beat the Terrier's goalie at the left post to put the ball to the back of the net. Fisher then found Rodriguez open in the box, where she converted in the 30th minute of play. Just over five minutes later, Delusi pounced on a loose rebound off a shot from a free kick by Fisher, and put Rider up 3-0 at the half.

St. Francis Brooklyn would answer back in the second half with a goal from Isabelle Gollete in the 53rd minute of play. The goal would not go unanswered though, as Nikki Arrington (Middletown, MA/Masconomet Regional) and Fisher combined on touches that Rodrigues converted for her second goal of the night in the 82nd minute. St. Francis posted another goal in the 87th minute to produce the final score.

Quotes and Notes
"It was good to score four goals, good to get a win, but there's still things to work on. We want to try and get better every game. Different opponents bring new challenges, so we want to improve our performance, and if that ends up in a win that's great. Improving performance doesn't necessarily result in a win, we want to get better from game to game."
"Makenzie's goals came from Chloe, which shows a level of understanding between them. There's still a ton of work to do, it takes a long time to get that understanding, but we have two years for them to be working together. If they're starting to score goals now, I think it's a good sign. It has the potential to be a really dynamic partnership."

"At 3-0 it's important to get that next goal at the start of the next half, unfortunately we didn't so they scored. It's tough to respond to that energy, but we did, we got up 4-1 tonight and everyone played. It was a great opportunity for other players to get and experience their first college game." – Rider Head Coach Drayson Hounsome
"I'm feeling good, the team is feeling good, we needed the win. This was vital for us going forward. It's something to work from, us having four goals behind us. With me and Makenzie on top it's about getting our communication on key, and this game a switch flipped. We worked really well together, she was finding the passes I was playing through, and it was evident in the two goals she got and my assists."

"Maddie and Logan who come on, amazing freshman. They're the people you want coming off the bench, giving you energy, giving you speed. Everyone working up top today was great."

"I think definitely from today there's going to be a lot more confidence. Girls will be trying new things in the game, a lot more smiles and encouragement knowing we can come away with a win. It's a very good vibe."

"I feel like the connection between me and the wide players with plays from out wide coming in. I feel like today, the last goal we just scored, Nikki played it in to me and I pulled it back. And the same with Lindsey on my first goal, she laid it into me and they're looking for the players up top. We always say when we find those passes that's when we're going to score goals. Today that's what worked, the connection with all the line and the attacking midfielders it worked well, really good." – Rider Women's Soccer Player
