LOUDONVILLE, NJ – Sophomore
Chaela Crowder (Simi Valley, CA/Simi Valley) hit a first-inning Game 2 two-run home run and the support was all freshman pitcher
Anna-Marie Groskritz (Granby, CT/Granby Memorial) would need as the Broncs salvaged a split at Siena Saturday. The Saints won Game 1, 7-3, before Rider responded with a 5-0 win in Game 2. With the split, the Broncs move to 7-3, while the Saints are now 2-4.
Siena immediately struck for three runs in the first in Game 1 on two hits, a walk, a hit-by-pitch and an error. Rider used some two-out magic and a pair of Siena errors to tie the game at 3-3 in the fourth.
Laneya Wright (Tucson, AZ/Marana) singled home
Caitlyn Danovich (Simi Valley, CA/Agoura), who'd doubled. An error allowed Wright to score, and following a walk,
Brianna Koonce (Warminster, PA/William Tennent) stole third and scored on an error to tie the game. But a two-run home run in the fifth put Siena on top for good and they'd add two more in the sixth.
In Game 2, Crowder hit a two-out, two-run home run in the top of the first. Rider added two more in the fifth, cashing in a pair of walks to open the inning. After
Kelsey Marigliano (Seaford, NY/Plainledge) bunted the runners to second and third,
Alyssa Ansara's (Waterville, OH/Anthony Wayne) groundout plated
Jessie Niegocki (Marana, AZ/Mountain View).
Elena Gonzalez (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge) then doubled home
Kennedy Jarrard (Carlsbad, CA/Carlsbad) to make it 4-0.
Another Gonzalez RBI double in the seventh pushed the advantage to 5-0 Rider and the support was more than enough for Groskritz, who completed the shutout, limiting Siena to four hits and four walks.
