Baseball Drops Home Opener Against La Salle

The Explorers topped the Broncs, 14-4.

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University baseball dropped its 2020 home opener to La Salle, 14-4, on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action on Sonny Pittaro Field.

The Broncs (6-8) suffered their fifth straight loss, while the Explorers (5-9) snapped a seven-game losing streak with the win.

La Salle opened the scoring in the top of the second with a solo homer. The guests would add three insurance runs in the third before breaking the game open with a five-run outburst in the fourth.

Freshman Jake Andrey (Cherry Hill, NJ/The King's Christian School) was saddled with the loss as he tossed two and thirds innings and surrendered four earned run.

QUOTES
"La Salle came to play and we did not. It's that simple. We walked seven batters, hit a guy and committed four errors. That's 12 free bases. When the game was still competitive we missed a few opportunities to score. Overall it was a below-the-line effort." – Rider Head Coach Barry Davis

BRONCS BY THE NUMBERS
- Senior Joe Simone went 2-for-3. It was his third multi-hit game of the spring.
- Kyle Johnson went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. He has a team-leading 18 walks and an on-base percentage over .490.
- In the seventh inning, Zach Fick had an RBI single, Brendan O'Donnell had a run-scoring triple and Tyler Stockwell added an RBI single as well.
