PHILADELPHIA – The Rider University women's tennis team opened the 2020 spring season Friday at Temple, but was swept, 7-0. With the loss, the Broncs slip to 1-8, while the Owls are now 1-3.
Rider battled at doubles, but dropped a pair of 6-3 decisions.
Cyd Melendez (Cayey, Puerto Rico/Colegio La Merced) and
Amanda Binder (Princeton, NJ/West Windsor Plainsboro HS North) fell at No. 1 to Stefaniya Surikova and Oleksandra Doroshenko, while
Angelica Garcia (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) and
Sarah Cheverie (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/National Sport School [Montana State]) were defeated by Yining Tian and Oyku Boz at No. 2.
In singles, Melendez played the most competitive match, but fell to Surikova at No. 1, 6-4, 6-1.
The Broncs return to action March 25, when they play host to Delaware State. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
