ATLANTA, GA –
Lani Moreno (Claremont, CA/Claremont) had a pair of hits and
Rachael Zeides (Woodbine, NJ/Ocean City) drove in two runs, but the Rider University softball team was swept by Georgia State, 9-0 and 7-3, Saturday afternoon. With the losses, the Broncs fall to 0-8, while the Panthers are now 5-13.
In Game 1, the Panthers scored four runs in the both the first and second innings and added another tally in the third to take a 9-0 lead. The support was more than enough for GSU starting pitcher Sophie Mooney, who limited the Broncs to an
Elyse Cuttic (Easton, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) single, a
Melanie Wilkinson (Richboro, PA/Council Rock South) walk and a pair of batters reaching via errors en route to the five-inning complete game shutout.
In Game 2, the Panthers jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the second on a pair of home runs, an RBI single and a run-scoring groundout. GSU tacked on single runs on the fourth and fifth innings to extend the lead to 7-0. Rider struck for three runs in the top of the seventh, as
Caitlyn Danovich (Simi Valley, CA/Agoura) led off with a double, moved to third on a
Chaela Crowder (Simi Valley, CA/Simi Valley) single and scored along with pinch runner
Alyssa Ansara (Waterville, OH/Anthony Wayne) on a
Rachael Zeides single. Cuttic would add a sacrifice fly to score Zeides, but the Panthers closed out the 7-3 victory.
