Creighton, Bowling Green Defeat Rider Softball

Four Broncs compile two hits each

NASHVILLE, TN – Four Broncs had two hits apiece, but the Rider University softball team was defeated by Creighton and Bowling Green Saturday at the Tennessee State Tiger Classic. With the losses, the Broncs fall to 0-3, while the Blue Jays improved to 6-4 and the Falcons moved to 5-3.

Rachael Zeides (Woodbine, NJ/Ocean City), Elena Gonzalez (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge), Chaela Crowder (Simi Valley, CA/Simi Valley) and Kelsey Marigliano (Seaford, NY/Plainledge) each had two hits on the day.

Following four scoreless frames, the Blue Jays finally got to Rider starting pitcher Debra Jones (Bordentown, NJ/Bordentown) for two in the top of the fifth. However, the Broncs battled back with two runs in the bottom of the inning, with Lani Moreno (Claremont, CA/Claremont) getting things started with a one-out double and scoring on Zeides' single through the right side. Marigliano later plated Zeides with a two-out RBI single.

But the Blue Jays would score four more runs in the sixth and added an insurance run in the seventh to earn the 7-2 win.

In Saturday's second game, Bowling Green took advantage of seven walks and five errors to take an 8-0 win in five innings. The Falcons scored once in the first, three in the third and four in the fourth to take the victory. Gonzalez, Grace Stansfield (Philadelphia, PA/William Penn Charter), Crowder and Jackie Cal (Castle Rock, CO/Regis Jesuit) each contributed a hit in the contest.
