JOHNSON CITY, TN – Sophomore left-hander
Frank Doelling (Riverside, NJ/Riderside) tossed a gem to lead the Rider University baseball team past host East Tennessee State, 7-4, on Saturday afternoon at Thomas Stadium.
Â
The Broncs (4-1) bounced back from yesterday's setback and had their first game this season without a fielding miscue, while the Bucs (4-2) suffered their first loss at home this season.
Â
Doelling tossed seven innings and surrendered just one earned run, while striking out nine batters. He scattered just three hits and issued only one walk.
Â
Rider got off to a quick start in the top of the first, plating two runs as
Jake Barbiere (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) hit an RBI single to left center. After a scoreless bottom of the first, the Broncs added another run in the second courtesy of an RBI single to right by
Scott Shaw (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill HS West).

QUOTES
"Frank was excellent today. He struck out nine in seven innings, but more importantly he only walked one hitter."
– Rider Head Coach Barry Davis
Â
"We put the ball in play several times with two strikes, forcing them to defend which you need to do. We left 10 on base and struck out 11 times at the plate so those are two glaring areas to improve on."
 - Davis
