HAMDEN, CT - The Rider University women's soccer team struck twice within just 49 seconds to defeat Quinnipiac 2-0 on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Broncs move to 4-2-3 (1-0-1 MAAC) while the Bobcats go to 5-4 (1-1 MAAC).
The Bronc defense stopped a barrage of shots and corner kicks from the Bobcat attack, with junior goalkeeper
Carmen Carbonell (Valencia, Spain/Guadalaviar School) saving a career-high 15 shots en route to her eighth career shutout.Â
The goals came for the Broncs when
Ailis Martin (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) slotted one past the Quinnipiac defense thanks to an assist from
Valeria Pascuet (Bunuel, Navarra, Spain/San Fermin Ikastola) in the 84th minute. Then, just 49 seconds later,
Sofia Soares (Sao Paolo, Brazil/St. Nicholas) converted from a
Kaitlyn Siciliano (Barnegat, NJ/Barnegat) pass to double the Rider lead for the final score.
