Soares' Hat Trick Propels Women's Soccer Past Delaware State, 6-1

Rodrigues adds brace, Cashin chips in with two assists

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJSofia Soares (Sao Paolo, Brazil/St. Nicholas) contributed a hat trick and an assist as the Rider University women's soccer team defeated Delaware State, 6-1, on a rain-soaked Ben Cohen Field Thursday night. With the win, the Broncs improve to 3-2-1, while the Hornets slip to 0-7-0.

Makenzie Rodrigues (Seattle, WA/Forest Ridge) scored the first of her two goals in the 26th minute off assists from Camryn Dees (Pickerington, OH/Pickerington H.S. North) and Niamh Cashin (Nottingham, England/All Saints Academy). Just over five minutes later, Soares finished off an assist from Cashin with what proved to be the game-winning goal.

Soares also scored in the 38th and 45th minutes off assists from Karagh Tait (Derbyshire, England/Derbyshire) and Erica Ludwikowski (Williamsport, PA/Williamsport), respectively, to complete a natural hat trick.

Rider kept the intensity up, with Ailis Martin (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) finishing off a Soares assist in the 56th minute. The Hornets got their lone goal from Mary O'Connor off a penalty kick in the 64th minute. But the Broncs got the tally back in the 67th minute, as Rodrigues completed her brace, finishing a feed from Madeleine Tarin (Eastvale, CA/Chino Hills).
