Women's Soccer Draws At Fairleigh Dickinson

Carmen Carbonell had six saves in the shutout effort

TEANECK, NJ - Carmen Carbonell (Valencia, Spain/Guadalaviar School) had six saves in her second shutout of the year as the Rider University women's soccer team drew with in-state rival Fairleigh Dickinson at University Stadium. With the tie, the Broncs remain unbeaten at 2-0-1 while the Knights go to 1-1-2.

After an even first half, Fairleigh Dickinson kept most of the possession in the second half, outshooting Rider 11-5. Their final two shots in regulation required back-to-back close-range saves in the box from Carbonell in the last minute. In just the second minute of overtime, graduate student Emily Curteis (Llanfyllin, Wales/Liverpool John Moores) got taken down in the box and drew a penalty kick. However, the attempt from senior Valeria Pascuet (Bunuel, Navarra, Spain/San Fermin Ikastola) to sneak the ball inside the left post went just wide.

Quotes and Notes
"The team played well for our first road game. I thought we really took the game to them in the first half. As the teams fatigued it became more physical and all about competing. Defensively we looked more solid and when called upon Carmen came up with the big save." - Rider Head Coach Drayson Hounsome

- Carbonell now has seven career clean sheets, moving her to fifth on Rider's all-time list.
- Rider breaks a three-match losing streak at University Stadium. Their last result came in a similar 0-0 tie in 2011.
- This was Rider's first road shutout since a 2-0 win at Canisius on October 7, 2017.
