BALTIMORE, MD –
Kelsey Marigliano (Seaford, NY/Plainledge) collected four hits and scored three runs, but the Rider University softball team was swept at Morgan State, 3-2 and 4-2, Wednesday afternoon. With the losses, the Broncs fall to 7-43, while the Bears are now finish their season at 22-24.
The Broncs led Game 1, 2-0, heading to the bottom of the sixth. Marigliano got the Broncs on the board in the top of the first by doubling, moving to third on a groundout and scoring on a wild pitch. Rider tacked on another run in the sixth, as
Rachael Zeides (Woodbine, NJ/Ocean City) doubled, moved to third on a
Maddy Chain (Glocester, NJ/Gloucester City) infield single and scored on
Kiera Swank's (Bear, DE/Caravel Academy) sacrifice fly. But the Bears would score three in the bottom of the inning on three hits and an error to earn the win.
Both teams scored a run in the first inning of Game 2 before the Bears took the lead for good with three in the second. Another Marigliano double set the table for the Broncs to manufacture a run in the first. A groundout pushed her to third before she scored on an error. A single, a groundout, an error and a passed ball evened the score for the Bears in the bottom of the first before a pair of walks to lead off the second both came around to score, along with one more run in the bottom of the second. The only scoring the rest of the way came on
Lani Moreno's (Claremont, CA/Claremont) double to score Marigliano in the seventh.
