LOUDONVILLE, NY –
Grace Stansfield (Philadelphia, PA/William Penn Charter) led the Rider University softball team with three hits, but the Broncs were swept by Siena, 6-0 and 7-1, Saturday afternoon. With the losses, the Broncs fall to 7-39 (3-11 MAAC), while the Saints are now 18-20 (10-4 MAAC).
Siena never trailed on the day, jumping out to 6-0 leads in both games. In Game 1, the Saints scored one in the first, one in the second, two in the third and two more in the sixth. The Broncs' greatest threat came in the sixth, when Stansfield doubled and
Shelby Miller (Roseville, CA/Whitney) followed with a one-out single to put runners on the corners. But the Saints got out of trouble with a double play.
Game 2 was scoreless through three innings before Siena struck for three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. The Broncs got their lone run of the day in the sixth, as
Lani Moreno (Claremont, CA/Claremont) led off with a double, moved to third on a groundout and scored on an
Emily Oltman (Collegeville, PA/Perkiomen Valley) squeeze bunt. Siena got a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth to account for the 7-1 final score.
