Jones Throws Seven No-Hit Innings, But Softball Swept at Quinnipiac

Jones doesn't allow hit until eighth inning

HAMDEN, CT Debra Jones (Bordentown, NJ/Bordentown) pitched seven no-hit innings to begin Game 1, but the Rider University softball team was swept at Quinnipiac, 1-0 and 6-0, Tuesday afternoon. With the losses, the Broncs fall to 7-35 (3-9 MAAC), while the Bobcats are now 16-27 (7-7 MAAC).

Jones pitched masterfully in Game 1, but couldn't get any run support. Just two base runners would reach for the Bobcats on a pair of walks prior to the eighth inning, when four-straight reached on a walk and three singles to end the ballgame. Quinnipiac pitcher Kendall Brundrett limited the Broncs to just four hits and a walk to earn the complete-game shutout.

In Game 2, the Bobcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second with a two-out rally. Jen Fay singled and consecutive doubles from Hannah Davis and Brighid Douglas resulted in a pair of Quinnipiac runs. Douglas added her third and fourth RBI's of the day with a two-run single in the fourth and the Bobcats would tack on two more to make it 6-0 after four. The support was more than enough for Bobcats starting pitcher Lauren King, who didn't allow a hit until the sixth inning en route to a complete-game, two-hit shutout.

QUOTES & NOTES
"It was a very disappointing day for us today. Deb once again provided us with an outstanding game in the circle and we just couldn't execute offensively or take advantage of scoring opportunities. The same issues have plagued us all season and we just can't figure out how to pull ourselves out of it." – Rider Head Coach Davon Ortega

- Jones took the tough-luck Game 1 loss, allowing one earned run on three hits and three walks, while striking out two in 7.1 innings pitched.
- Brooklyn Trujillo (Henderson, CO/Prairie View) started Game 2 in the circle and took the loss. She allowed six earned runs on six hits and three walks in 4.0 innings pitched. She struck out two.
- Elyse Cuttic (Easton, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) pitched two perfect innings of relief in Game 2, retiring all six batters she faced, including one by strikeout.
- The Broncs return to action tomorrow, when they travel to Army. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
