HAMDEN, CT –
Debra Jones (Bordentown, NJ/Bordentown) pitched seven no-hit innings to begin Game 1, but the Rider University softball team was swept at Quinnipiac, 1-0 and 6-0, Tuesday afternoon. With the losses, the Broncs fall to 7-35 (3-9 MAAC), while the Bobcats are now 16-27 (7-7 MAAC).
Jones pitched masterfully in Game 1, but couldn't get any run support. Just two base runners would reach for the Bobcats on a pair of walks prior to the eighth inning, when four-straight reached on a walk and three singles to end the ballgame. Quinnipiac pitcher Kendall Brundrett limited the Broncs to just four hits and a walk to earn the complete-game shutout.
In Game 2, the Bobcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second with a two-out rally. Jen Fay singled and consecutive doubles from Hannah Davis and Brighid Douglas resulted in a pair of Quinnipiac runs. Douglas added her third and fourth RBI's of the day with a two-run single in the fourth and the Bobcats would tack on two more to make it 6-0 after four. The support was more than enough for Bobcats starting pitcher Lauren King, who didn't allow a hit until the sixth inning en route to a complete-game, two-hit shutout.
