Softball Earns 5-2 Road Win at Penn

Marigliano collects two hits, two runs; Trujillo spins complete game

PHILADELPHIAKelsey Marigliano (Seaford, NY/Plainledge) had two hits and two runs scored and Brooklyn Trujillo (Henderson, CO/Prairie View) went the distance in the circle as the Rider University softball team defeated Penn, 5-2, Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the Broncs improve to 2-20, while the Quakers are now 11-10.

The Broncs struck first for three runs in the top of the third. Marigliano led off with a single, stole second, moved to third on a groundout and scored on Sam Ward's (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater Raritan) single up the middle. A two-base error on the next play put runners on second and third and another Quakers miscue scored both Broncs to make it a 3-0 Rider cushion.

Rider tacked on single runs in the fourth and sixth, making the Quakers pay for a pair of two-out walks in the fourth. Grace Stansfield (Philadelphia, PA/William Penn Charter) and Ward were issued free passes before Rachael Zeides (Woodbine, NJ/Ocean City) singled up the middle to score the Broncs' fourth run. In the sixth, Marigliano reached on an infield single to the pitcher and advanced two bases on a throwing error. She'd score on another Penn error to make it 5-0.

Penn's only runs came with two out in the bottom of the seventh. Clare Sebastianelli homered and Sarah Cwiertnia added an RBI double. But Trujillo rebounded to get a bases-loaded strikeout to end the game.
