Wrestling Faces Clarion Saturday In Pivotal EWL Match

Broncs look to avenge heartbreaker last season

What You Need To Know
- The Rider University wrestling team will face Clarion Saturday afternoon in a pivotal EWL match at Alumni Gym.
- Rider is 6-3 in the dual season, including wins in its last two and five of its last six. Most recently, the Broncs have collected wins over Hofstra and George Mason.
- Redshirt junior Anthony Cefolo (Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park Regional) has won his last six matches, including the last four by fall. He now has a team-high six wins by fall this season. Cefolo was named EWL Wrestler of the Week on Jan. 21 after pinning nationally-ranked No. 7 Austin Gomez of Iowa State.  
- Redshirt junior Jesse Dellavecchia was named EWL Wrestler of the Week on Jan. 14 after going 3-0 against competition from Cleveland State, Drexel and Edinboro. Dellavecchia now has a team-high 18 wins, is 8-0 in dual competition and 3-0 against EWL opponents.  
- Dellavecchia is now ranked as highly as No. 13 nationally by TheOpenMat and No. 15 by Intermat and FloWrestling. Amateur Wrestling News and WIN both have him ranked 18th.
- Clarion's top wrestler is Greg Bulsak at 197. Bulsak is ranked as high as No. 14 nationally, and has posted a 12-4 record.
- Leading 17-12 heading to the final bout at Clarion last season, Golden Eagles heavyweight Toby Cahill pinned Mauro Correnti to hand the Broncs an 18-17 heartbreaker. The loss was Rider's lone setback of the conference dual schedule.  
- Though Rider owns a 15-4 lead in the all-time series, Clarion has won two of the last three in 2015-16 and 2017-18.  
- Rider had 12 top six finishes in their three tournaments – the Princeton Open, Keystone Classic and Southern Scuffle -  including Jonathan Tropea's (Harrington Park, NJ/Saint Joseph (Montvale)) Keystone Classic Championship at 125 and runner-up finish at the Princeton Open and a fourth-place finish from Dellavecchia at the Southern Scuffle. 
- The Broncs were picked second in the EWL Preseason Coaches Poll, while seniors Dean Sherry (Brick, NJ/Brick Township) and Anthony Cefolo (Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park [South Dakota State]) were picked atop their weight classes of 174 and 133, respectively.
- The Broncs' recruiting class was ranked No. 22 in the nation by Intermat. Frankie Gissendanner (Rochester, NY/Penfield) headlined the class after ranking second in the country last year. Chris Wright (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) was also ranked 13th at 126 last year, while Joe Casey (Bridgewater, NJ/Bound Brook), Bryan Martin (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown), Richie Koehler (Middletown, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) and Quentin Milliken (Mechanicsburg, PA/Trinity) also come highly rated.
- A Rider wrestler has achieved All-American status on 17 occasions, including 15 different wrestlers.
