Baseball Falls at Siena on Monday

The Saints swept the three-game series with the Broncs

LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Rider University baseball team fell to Siena, 11-1, on Monday afternoon in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action.

The Broncs (11-29, 6-11 MAAC) have now dropped four conference games in a row, while the Saints (15-28, 11-7 MAAC) completed the three-game sweep of Rider.

Siena got off to a quick start on Monday, taking advantage of a Rider miscue to score three runs in the bottom of the first off Bronc starter Vincent Vitacco (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Bonner).

Rider answered in the third inning as sophomore Joe Simone (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) lined an RBI single to bring the guests within two at 3-1. In the bottom half, Siena countered the Bronc run with one of their own to stretch the lead back to three.

The Saints blew the game open with four runs in the fourth to chase Vitacco and Siena would add an insurance run in the fifth and two more in the sixth.

Vitacco worked three and two-thirds innings and surrendered eight runs (six of which were earned). He was saddled with the loss to fall to 0-4 on the year in his fifth career start.
