What You Need To Know
- Rider enters this weekend's games in a virtual five-way tie for the sixth and final MAAC Championship spot with Manhattan at 8-10 and Quinnipiac, Niagara, Canisius and the Broncs all deadlocked at 7-9. Marist is also only a game up on the field at 8-8.
- A MAAC Championship berth would be the Broncs' first since 2006.
- The Broncs are 9-3 at home this season.
- Rider's 16 wins are their most since 2012, when the Broncs won 20 games. Rider's seven league wins are also the most since the 2012 also won seven in 16 games.
- Between games of Sunday's doubleheader, the Broncs will honor their three seniors on Senior Day. Monica Clark, Toni Niño and team manager Samantha Collura will be recognized.
- Clark and Niño each reached the 100-hit plateau this season, becoming the 51st and 52nd Broncs to achieve the feat.
- Niño scored her 41st run of the season on Wednesday at Lehigh, tying Deanna Dovak's 17-year old program single-season record, set in 2001. Niño scored six runs in all of 2017 and had 36 in her first three seasons at Rider.
- Rider enjoyed its most-successful Western New York road trip since 2004, going 2-2 on April 29 and 30. The Broncs had been swept in the four games or only won one game in the prior six trips. In 2004, the Broncs won three of four.
- Siena is 16-22 overall and 11-5 in the MAAC following a Tuesday split at Canisius. The Griffs took Game 1, 4-3, in eight innings, before Siena won Game 2, 6-0.
- The Saints are led by 2017 MAAC Player of the Year Madysen Cossack, who's hitting a team-best .398 with six home runs, 27 RBI's and 20 runs scored this season. She's also racked up 20 doubles.
- Maddie McMahon leads the Siena pitching staff with a 7-4 record, a 2.29 ERA and 80 strikeouts in 85.2 innings pitched. Lauren Butts has also contributed a 7-9 record with a 3.56 ERA and 78 strikeouts in 90.1 innings.
- Following a five-game losing skid, Marist has won its last four with doubleheader sweeps of Saint Peter's and Lafayette.
- Ali Milam leads Marist's offense with a .369 average, nine home runs and 46 RBI's. She's also scored 25 runs and has a .455 on-base percentage.
- Megan Beiermeister is the Red Foxes' top pitcher this season, sporting an 11-8 record with a 2.62 ERA, 11 complete games, two shutouts and 79 strikeouts in 114.2 innings pitched.
- Rider's offense has been very much improved under first-year Head Coach Davon Ortega. Last year's team scored a total of 82 runs in 50 games, while this year's team currently has 223 runs through 46 games. Last year's RBI leader had 11, while the Broncs currently have 12 players with 11 or more RBI's.
- Rider has won three games this season by the mercy rule and is 3-3 in games shortened by the mercy rule. The Broncs' last win by mercy rule prior to this season came in April 2014. Between mercy rule wins, Rider had lost 38 straight mercy-rule decisions.
- Rider has enjoyed relative success in spite of injuries to its starting second and third basemen. Maddy Chain was hitting .371 when she was injured on March 31, before Monica Clark, who was hitting .347, was injured in the Broncs' next twinbill on April 5. Clark returned to the line-up on April 29, while Chain remains out.
- Sophomore pitcher Elyse Cuttic (Easton, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) has been effective both in the circle (team-leading 3.81 ERA, seven wins) and in the batter's box (.299 average, team-leading six home runs, 28 RBI's).
