Box Score CLEARWATER, FL – Freshman catcher
Keegan Zavodnik (Murrieta, CA/Lakeside) contributed a pair of hits, including an RBI single, but the Rider University softball team fell to Western Michigan, 3-1, Sunday morning to close out play in the USF – Under Armour Showcase. Rider slips to 2-11 on the season.
The Broncos got two runs in the top of the first, loading the bases on two walks and a fielder's choice, before a sacrifice fly plated the first. A two-out RBI single then made it 2-0 after a half inning. After Rider got the first two outs in the top of the third, Western Michigan added another run with a walk, a single and an error to make it a 3-0 Rider deficit.
Rider got one run back in the bottom of the fifth, when
Monica Clark (Bryn Mawr, PA/Archbishop Carroll) tripled and scored on Zavodnik's RBI single. The Broncs would load the bases later in the frame and put the tying runs on base in the seventh, but couldn't bring any more runs across.
