PHILADELPHIA – The nationally-ranked No. 21 Rider University wrestling team fell in a tightly-contested match at Drexel, 18-14, Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Broncs slip to 11-4 on the season.
Rider established a 14-6 match lead on the strength of decisions from
J.R. Wert (Christianburg, VA/Christianburg),
Tyson Dippery (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin [Rutgers]) and
Gary Dinmore (Skillman, NJ/Hunterdon Central [Penn State]) and a tech fall from
Chad Walsh (Cherry Hill, NJ/Camden Catholic).
But the Dragons would win the final four matches to take the victory. Included in the stretch was a late takedown with 23 seconds left at 285 to secure the 18-14 decision.
Notes
- Dinmore returned to the line-up for the first time in two weeks to spark the Broncs at 149.
- Walsh improved to 19-1 on the season.
- Rider returns to the mat on Wednesday, when it welcomes Hofstra to Alumni Gym at 7 p.m.
