Women's Soccer Falls at Temple, 3-1

Smith scores first goal of the season

PHILADELPHIA – Senior Ellie Smith (Norwich, England/Norwich City) scored her first goal of the season, but the Rider University women's soccer team fell at Temple, 3-1, Thursday evening. With the loss, the Broncs dip to 0-3, while the Owls improve to 2-3.

Smith got the scoring started, finishing a Michelle Iacono (Merrick, NY/Calhoun) cross exactly nine minutes into the first half. But after maintaining the 1-0 lead for the next 24 minutes, Temple scored twice in a span of two and a half minutes to take the lead for good. Emma Wilkins scored the equalizer in the 34th minute, before Morgan Morocco put away the game winner in the 36th minute.

Wilkins put the game away in the 87th minute, scoring off a rebound for her second goal of the game.
 
Notes
- For the third-straight game, Carmen Carbonell (Valencia, Spain/Guadalaviar School) and Amy Kozlowski (Middletown, CT/Middletown) split the game in goal. Kozlowski started and made one save, while Carbonell made three saves in the second half.  
- In all three games this season, the Broncs have allowed two goals in the first half.
- Broncs' junior Kourtney Cunningham (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) and her sister, Temple redshirt senior Kayla Cunningham, each started the game.

Broncs By The Numbers
- Temple attempted 26 shots to the Broncs' eight. However the shots on goal showed a much tighter 7-5 advantage for the Owls.
- Smith was the Broncs' leader in goals a year ago with eight. She and Cunningham have accounted for the Broncs' two goals in three games so far this season.
- Iacono's assist was the 12th of her career. She had three assists as a freshman, five as a sophomore, one in an injury-curtailed 2015 and two last season.   
- Valeria Pascuet (Bunuel, Navarra, Spain/San Fermin Ikastola) took a team-high three shots, while Smith took two.
- Temple took an 8-5 edge in corner kicks.
