Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 HAMDEN, CT -- Sophomore Brianna Parisio (Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Memorial) went 2-3 in Game 1 with an RBI and stolen base and was one of four Broncs with two hits on the day, but Quinnipiac swept the Rider University softball team in their second MAAC doubleheader of the season, 5-2, and 2-0. Rider falls to 3-22 (0-4 MAAC) as the Bobcats improve to 12-15 (3-1 MAAC).
The first of the twinbill began as a pitchers' duel between freshman Emily Oltman (Collegeville, PA/Perkiomen Valley) and Casey Herzog of the Bobcats, with just two hits between the teams in the first three and a half innings. In the bottom of the fourth, Rebecca Drake began a run of five straight batters to reach base for Quinnipiac, as three runners scored off of a deep double to left field, a fielder's choice, and a Delany DeMello (Roseville, CA/Roseville) error at third base. The Broncs got two back in the top of the fifth to make it a 3-2 game with a Parisio RBI single and subsequent stolen base, which resulted in the Quinnipiac catcher overthrowing second base. This allowed senior Josettee Spencer (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) to score. Quinnipiac added an additional run in the fifth and sixth for the final line.
The second game began with a bang for the Bobcats as leadoff hitter Miranda Magana homered for a quick 1-0 lead off of senior starter Kaitlyn Kallert (Woodland Park, NJ/Passaic Valley). Drake then doubled to left field and allowed Magana to score her second run of the game in the home half of the third inning for the final score.
