Box Score 2 LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ –
Amanda Crimarco (Levittown, NY/Kellenberg) finished with three hits, but the Rider University softball team was swept by Canisius, 15-1 and 13-5, Saturday afternoon at Herb & Joan Young Field. With the losses, the Broncs slip to 6-31 (1-9 MAAC), while the Griffs improve to 18-26 (6-6 MAAC).
The Griffs capitalized on two walks and a hit-by-pitch to load the bases in the first, as Moriah Harris launched a grand slam to put Canisius on top, 4-0. The lead extended to 6-0 on a two-run double by Lauren Castro in the top of the second. The Broncs scored their lone run in the bottom of the frame, when
Josettee Spencer (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) singled and
Sabrina Torres (Clifton, NJ/Paramus Catholic) scored on a throwing error on the play to make it 6-1. But the Griffs scored nine times in the fourth and fifth innings to abbreviate the game.
Canisius scored the first 10 runs of Game 2, before Rider scored four in the bottom of the third.
Kiera Swank's (Bear, DE/Caravel Academy) RBI double got things started before
Maddy Chain (Gloucester, NJ/Gloucester City) followed suit with an RBI two-base hit of her own. Two more runs scored on a single from
Alexa Feliciano (Thousand Oaks, CA/Oak Park). But Canisius would score two more in the top of the fourth. The Broncs prolonged the game on
Amanda Jordan's (Somerset, NJ/Franklin Township) RBI single with two outs in the fifth, but would draw no closer.
