CONWAY, SC – Senior Delany DeMello (Roseville, CA/Roseville) went 3-for-4, but the Rider University softball team fell to the University of North Carolina Greensboro, 6-0, and the University of Missouri-Kansas City, 8-0, Saturday on Day 2 of the Battle at the Beach, hosted by Coastal Carolina. With the losses, the Broncs slip to 0-4, while the Spartans improve to 4-3 and the Kangaroos are now 2-5.  

DeMello went 2-for-2 against the Spartans, while Toni Nino (Adelanto, CA/Silverado), Gabby Bram (Jackson, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) and Josettee Spencer (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) also added a hit apiece. The Spartans scored two each in the second and third innings, while adding single runs in the fourth and sixth to secure the 6-0 win. 

Against the Kangaroos, DeMello, Elyse Cuttic (Easton, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) and Alexa Feliciano (Thousand Oaks, CA/Oak Park) added a hit apiece. UMKC built a 5-0 lead through four and walked off with a three-run bottom of the fifth.

• DeMello's three hits push her season average to a team-leading .600 (3-for-5). She also made her first start of the season in the circle, taking the loss against UNCG. 

• A day after being limited to one hit in 10 innings, the Broncs tallied eight hits in 12 innings.

• The Broncs were plagued by the double-play ball, grounding into four twin killings on the day.

The Broncs wrap up play at the Battle at the Beach tomorrow, when they face UMKC at 10 a.m.
