Saint Joseph's 5, Rider University 0
PHILADELPHIA, Pa.—Despite matching the Hawks hit for hit, the Rider University softball team was shutout 5-0 on Wednesday in a non-conference game.
Freshman Amanda Crimarco (Levittown, N.Y./Kellenberg) had two of Rider's seven hits in the game with the Hawks also compiling seven hits in the game.
“The difference was timely hitting again,” said head coach Tricia Carroll. “We also allowed too many runners by hitting them. Everyone wants to turn this around and will keep working but today was definitely frustrating.”
The Hawks used a two-out single to start a rally in bottom of the second inning. Following a Rider wild pitch, an RBI single to center field gave Saint Joseph's a 1-0 lead.
Two singles, an error and a bases loaded walk gave the Hawks a 2-0 lead in the third inning.
The Hawks plated two runs without a hit in the fourth inning, converting a hit by pitch, walk, RBI ground out, walk, another hit by pitch and an error into a 4-0 deficit for the Broncs.
Two hit by pitches, a steal, a passed ball and a ground out gave the Hawks their final run in the sixth inning.
Sophomore Montana Berg (Danville, Calif./Monte Vista) went the opening four innings for Rider, allowing only two earned runs.
The Hawks defeated Rider 11-7 in 2013 in Lawrenceville. Rider has won nine of the 20 games all-time in the series.
Rider hosts Villanova on Thursday at Herb and Joan Young Field.
