Rider at Lafayette Spring Invitational
HELLERTOWN, Pa.—The Rider University golf team competed at the two-day Lafayette Spring Invitational, Sunday and Monday at the Silver Creek Country Club, a par 72, 6,643 yard course.
Rider finished tied for seventh place out of 18 teams (616) after shooting rounds of 304 and 312.
“We gave ourselves a chance to win the tournament with our effort on Sunday,” said head coach Jason Barry. “We didn't play well enough today to get the job done. We did enjoy playing with the final groups but we wanted to put forth a better showing.”
Freshman Aaron Simone (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) shot a 77 on Monday after scoring 76 on Sunday and he finished tied for 24th out of 100 golfers with his 11 over par score of 153.
"Aaron works very hard on his game and has done so all season," Barry said. "He hit the ball well this weekend and had a chance to win the tournament if he putted better. His work ethic gives him the potential to win multiple tournaments. He is a great person and huge addition to the team."
Senior James Buttermark (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) finished with a two-day total 154 (75-79) and was 27th.
Junior Luke Liddell (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) shot rounds of 78 and 79 (157) to finish in a tie for 50th.
Sophomore Joe Hughes (Tabernacle/Seneca) and sophomore Tom Yarson (Montgomery) each scored a total of 159 to tie for 62nd. Hughes had rounds of 75 and 84 and Yarson scored rounds of 82 and 77.
