Day Two at Princeton Invitational

College Golf
Princeton Invitational
Rider 14th of 15 teams

PRINCETON—The Rider University golf team competed at the two-day, 54-hole Princeton Invitational Saturday and Sunday.

The competition was played at the par 71, 6,390 yard Springdale Country Club.

After the 54-hole tournament, Rider placed 14th of 15 teams with a score of 900 (300-298-302).

“We left a lot of strokes out there again today,” said head coach Jason Barry.  “We have improved and are a much stronger team.  We just need to clean up some silly mistakes around the green.  We are close to being where we need to be.”

For the Broncs, senior James Buttermark (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) finished tied for 21st place out of 78 golfers after rounds of 71-73-73 (217).

“This was a very solid week from James,” Barry said.  “He didn't hit the ball well last week and it was good to see him bounce back.  He even left some strokes out there so his score could have been even lower.”

Buttermark shot 3.97 on the par four holes, the eighth best average in the tournament.

Freshman Aaron Simone (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) finished tied for 51st place (226) after rounds of 74-75-77, matching teammate, sophomore Tom Yarson (Montgomery) who shot rounds of 75-76-75 for his two-day 226 total.

Junior Luke Liddell (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) was 70th (232) after scoring 81-74-77 in his three rounds and sophomore Joe Hughes (Tabernacle/Seneca) finished tied for 74th after rounds of 80, 76 and 84, shooting 240.

Hughes had one of the 14 eagles in the tournament.

“We will work hard these next two weeks and should be in great shape heading into the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships in Florida,” Barry said.

Rider plays in the Peacock Invitational April 21 before traveling south for the conference championships April 25-27.
