Rider at Whiting-Turner Towson Invite
Broncs 18th of 22
GRASONVILLE, Md.—The Rider University golf team finally opened the 2014 spring season, competing at the rain delayed Whiting-Turner Towson Invite March 30-April 1.
After the opening 18 holes at the par 72, 6,703 yard Hog Neck Golf Course, located in nearby Easton, Maryland, Rider is tied for 18th place of 22 teams with a score of 334.
“The conditions made the course extremely tough today,” said head coach Jason Barry. “We had a tough time getting into a good rhythm. We were competitively rusty.”
In individual play, senior James Buttermark (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) shot an eight over par 80 and is tied for 45th out of 113 golfers. Buttermark had 12 pars during his round and was only four over par until the final four holes.
Also for the Broncs on Monday, junior Luke Liddell (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) is tied for 66th after a 10 over par 82, along with sophomore Tom Yarson (Montgomery). Liddell had two of Rider's three birdies on the day. Yarson was only two over par on his final nine holes.
Junior Cole Clark (Califon/Voorhees) is tied for 108th with a score of 88 and freshman Aaron Simone (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna), playing unattached, scored an 89 and is 110th.
Steffen Harm from VCU shot a one over par 73 and is in first place, leading by one shot over a group of four golfers.
In the team competition, Fairleigh Dickinson is in the lead by two shots over Virginia Commonwealth.
The final 18 holes of the shortened event will be Tuesday at the Prospect Bay Country Club, beginning at 8:00 a.m.
