Rutgers University 25, Rider University 5
NEW BRUNSWICK-The Broncs won two of 10 bouts in a loss at Rutgers Saturday evening. "Rutgers out-wrestled us tonight," said Rider head coach Gary Taylor. "When they had their opportunities they capitalized on them We didn't so I give them credit."
For Rider (3-1) senior Zac Cibula (Luxemburg, Wis./Luxemburg Casco) upset the ninth ranked 157 in the nation, Scott Winston.
"Zac had a nice win, beat a good kid," Taylor said.
Cibula improves to 14-5 on the season.
Sophomore Jimmy Morris (Northport, NY/St. Anthony's) won a 2-0 decision to get Rider on the board. Morris improved to 4-0 in duals, 12-5 overall.
"We wrestled well at 133 as well," Taylor said.
Rider junior James Brundage (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining) battled the 10th ranked 174 Greg Zannetti, to a 3-1 decision.
Rutgers improves to 5-0 on the year.
Rider defeated Rutgers five straight times before the Scarlet Knights won the last six meetings, including a 21-12 decision last year when Rutgers was ranked 16th in the nation.
Rider is 12-7 against Rutgers since the series began in 1994-95.
The Broncs are now off until Midlands December 29-30. "We'll be working hard until then to get back to where we were," Taylor said.
