Rider University 22, Clarion University 18
CLARION, Pa.--The Rider University wrestling team defeated Clarion University in a dual Sunday afternoon.
"We were fortunate to win the meet," said head coach Gary Taylor. "Clarion is a good team and we knew it would be a battle. "Fortunately we came out on top in this one."
Each team won five bouts with junior 133 Jimmy Kirchner (Somerville), junior 141 Aaron Nestor (Transfer, Pa./Reynolds) and red-shirt freshman 184 James Brundage (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining) picking up critical bonus points for the Broncs.
"James is a good athlete and has good balance," Taylor said. "He hit his opponent with a hip toss, got him to his back, wore him down and picked up the fall."
Rider (7-10) freshman 125 Chuck Zeisloft (Woodbury Heights/Gateway) and senior Rob Morrison (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff) also won decisions for the Broncs.
"I thought we wrestled hard throughout the whole day," Taylor said. "I thought every kid tried hard and getting the fall by Brundage at 184 really helped."
The Broncs defeated Clarion 19-18 on January 31, 2009 and Rider has won 11 of the 13 duals all-time against the Golden Eagles.
The Broncs host Drexel in a Colonial Athletic Association dual at 7pm on Wednesday, February 9 in Alumni Gym.
"Wednesday is going to be another tough match," Taylor added. "Drexel has good individuals, we have good individuals and I expect it to be another 'barn burner' both ways. There are a lot of bouts that could go either way."
