Rutgers University 29, Rider University 3
PISCATAWAY-The Broncs won just one of 10 bouts in a loss to eighth ranked Rutgers Saturday. "Rutgers has one of the best teams in the country," said Rider head coach Gary Taylor. "They just beat the number three ranked team in the nation (Virginia Tech) 24-7."
For Rider, junior Jimmy Kirchner (Somerville, N.J./Somerville) won at 133 to tie the score at 3-3. "Jimmy wrestled well," Taylor said. Kirchner improved to 17-9.
Rider freshman Evan Craig (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) lost 7-4 to the fourth ranked heavyweight in the nation for the final score. "Evan wrestled very well," Taylor said. "We're doing some different (training) things with Evan that are really starting to help him come around. He did much better against a really good wrestler. If he keeps improving the way he is he'll have a shot at the conference."
Junior Aaron Nestor (Transfer, PA/Reynolds) lost just 5-4 to the fourth ranked 149 in the nation. "Aaron did better against (Trevor) Melde than he ever has before," Taylor said. "He wrestled very well today."
Rider is now 5-9, while Rutgers improves to 17-1.
Rider defeated Rutgers five straight times before the Scarlet Knights won the last three meetings.
Rider travels to Harlem next Saturday to take on host Columbia and Franklin & Marshall.
