Old Dominion University 22 , Rider University 13
FAIRFAX, VA-The Broncs won one of three matches at the CAA Duals, hosted by George Mason Saturday. "We just need to keep improving, that's the main thing," said Rider head coach Gary Taylor. "We were in a lot of close matches."
The Broncs won eight of 10 bouts against Mason, five against Binghamton and four against ODU.
"The Binghamton match was probably our best of the day," Taylor said. "'They are very good."
For Rider, sophomore Jim Resnick (Media, Pa./Penncrest) and senior Rob Morrison (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff) both went 3-0 on the day. "Those two are both wrestling very well at this time," Taylor said. "They capitalized on the day."
"Robbie was in control all day," Taylor said of Morrison, who improved to 21-4 overall, 9-1 in duals.
Resnick won all three by major decision. "He was more than in control all day," Taylor said of Resnick, who improved to 13-1 on the season, 9-1 in duals.
Freshman Chuck Zeisloft (Woodbury Heights, N.J./Gateway) went 2-0. "Chuck needed to do that," Taylor said of Zeisloft.
Freshman Evan Craig (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) and junior Jimmy Kirchner (Somerville, N.J./Somerville) both went 2-1 with a major decision. "Evan is wrestling better," Taylor said of his rookie heavyweight. "He's starting to come on. It's going to take time."
Freshman Ramon Santiago (Sayreville, N.J./Sayreville) went 1-0. Senior Fred Rodgers (Perkiomenville, Pa./Boyertown) went 1-1. "Freddie had a tough kid from Binghamton but he beat the Old Dominion kid pretty good," Taylor said.
Freshman James Brundage (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining), junior Aaron Nestor (Transfer, Pa./Reynolds) and sophomore Zac Cibula (Luxemburg, Wis./Luxemburg Casco) all went 1-2 on the day.
Against host Mason Resnick and Craig won major decisions.
Against Binghamton Resnick and Kirchner won majors. Against ODU the Broncs led 9-3 and 12-6.
Rider competes at Rutgers next Saturday at 12 noon. "Rutgers is in the top 10 in the nation," Taylor said. "They've got a great team. We'll go up there and compete as hard as we can."
