FAIRFIELD, CT-The Broncs saw their unbeaten streak snapped at four games with a loss at Sacred Heart Sunday. "It was a very physical game," head coach Drayson Hounsome.

Sophomore Abi Cottam (Leominster, England/Ludlow) and freshman Jennifer Meier (Sayville, NY/St. Anthony's) scored for Rider.

Cottam crossed the ball, hitting a defender with the ball, controlled the rebound and scored her team-high fifth goal of the season to cut the lead to 3-2 14 minutes into the second half. "We were down 3-1 and Abi came out and took a shot that was blocked," Hounsome said, "she got the rebound and smacked it in from about 12 yards out. It was good to see her keep her goal scoring streak up."

Cottam has scored in the last three games.

Meier scored just 33 seconds into the game to give the Broncs a 1-0 lead. "That might be one of the quickest goals in program history," Hounsome said. The quickest goal since Kelli Burke '07 scored 18 seconds into a 3-1 loss at Iona on October 9, 2005.

It was Meier's first collegiate goal to go along with her two assists."She had so many shots so far (team-high 18) over the first five games, she certainly deserved one and she cracked it. It was a quality goal."

Rider (2-2-2) senior goalkeeper Alex Post (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West) made four saves.

Sacred Heart (4-2-1) took a 4-2 lead with 25 minutes left on a free kick from 35 yards out.

SHU tied the score at 1-1 in the 15th minute of play, took a 2-1 lead five minutes later, and made it 3-1 with a long goal in the 27th minute.

Sacred Heart out-shot Rider 16-5, including 11-2 in the first half.

SHU led 3-1 at the half.

The contest was Rider's fourth game in the last eight days.

Rider will travel to Wagner Friday. "We're looking forward to getting back out there on Friday," Hounsome said.
