BOSTON, Mass./FAIRFIELD, Conn.--The Rider University wrestling team improved to 15-6, 6-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association with three wins on Saturday, two of the wins coming against Boston University and Sacred Heart University in CAA duals.
Against the Terriers, Rider won five of the eight contested bouts and against American International, won all eight duals and against Sacred Heart, won seven of eight bouts.
"Team wise, things went very well," said head coach Gary Taylor. "Individually, there were some disappointments."
Rider sophomore 133 Jimmy Kirchner (Somerville) won three times by major decision on Saturday.
"After the Hofstra dual on Wednesday, Jimmy was anxious to get back on the mat," said Taylor. "The wins today (and tonight) got him back on target. He had a good day."
Also for the Broncs, junior 165 Rob Morrison (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cedar Cliff) won by fall against BU and Sacred Heart and posted a 5-1 decision against American International with senior 285 Ed Bordas (Montgomery, N.Y./Valley Central) winning by decision against the Terriers 2-1, by major decision over American International and by decision (9-0) against the Pioneers.
"Robbie won twice by fall and the BU wrestler is a pretty good athlete so he had a good day for us as well," Taylor added.
Also for the Broncs against BU, freshman 157 Zac Cibula (Luxemburg, Wis./Luxemburg Casco) won a major decision with sophomore 197 Tyler Smith (Philipsburg/Belvidere) winning 5-1.
Also for Rider against Sacred Heart, junior 141 Matt Bradley (Jackson/Jackson Memorial), freshman 174 Jim Resnick (Media, Pa./Penncrest) and senior 184 Mike Ward (Mayfield, Ohio/Mayfield Village) all won by fall.
"Winning the three matches was a good way to end the dual meet season," said Taylor.
Rider hosts the CAA championships March 5-6 at Alumni Gym on the Lawrenceville campus.
