WEST LONG BRANCH-The Broncs saw their two-game winning streak come to an end at Monmouth Sunday afternoon. "The score does not reflect it, but we are not that far away," said Rider head coach Drayson Hounsome.

"The first 20 minutes we moved the ball well and controlled much of the play," Hounsome said, "but we couldn't create any scoring chances."

The Hawks (1-2) broke a scoreless tie with 10 minutes left in the first half when Mary Wilks picked up a loose ball and scored from in close. "We made a mistake on defense and that led to an easy goal," Hounsome said.

Monmouth made it 2-0 four minutes later when Ali Kliment scored on a header off of a long throw in. "They had a long throw that we didn't defend well, another mistake on our part," Hounsome said.

The Hawks made it 3-0 with just four minutes left in the game off of a steal in the Rider end.

Monmouth out-shot Rider (2-3) 18-1, including 9-0 in the first half. "Most of those shots were not on goal, not quality shots, so that is a bit deceiving," Hounsome said.

Rider junior goalkeeper Alex Post (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West) gave up the first two goals and made one save. Freshman Jenn Nichols (Stratham, N.H./Exeter) played the final 18 minutes and allowed one goal and made two saves.

The game was Rider's fifth in 10 days.  "We've had a ridiculous schedule," Hounsome said. "although we did not look tired today."

Rider is now 2-6-2 against Monmouth. The last time Rider defeated the Hawks was during the 2003 season. Monmouth won 1-0 at Rider last year and 1-0 at Monmouth in 2007. "Monmouth is a very strong team," Hounsome said. "They seem to be a powerhouse every year."

Freshman Meghan Mohr (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem) had Rider's only shot of the game. "Meghan had a very strong game," Hounsome said.

Rider travels to Lafayette September 8 for a 7pm game. "We're looking to get back to .500 Tuesday, even though it will be out sixth game in 12 days," Hounsome said.
