LAWRENCEVILLE?On a very taxing day, the Rider University softball team was swept in a non-conference doubleheader by La Salle at Herb and Joan Young Field on Tuesday.  “I'm not really sure what to say,” said head coach Tricia Carroll.  “I was disappointed again in the attitude, energy and effort.  There is enough in a game that you can't control.  We aren't taking care of the things that we have control over.”

For the Broncs in game one, junior Katy Mills (Seattle, Wash./Mount Rainier) had two hits including a double and scored twice with junior Clarissa Ortiz (Vineland/Sacred Heart) adding a two-run double.

Junior Lauren Brunner (Chino, Calif./Chino) also doubled for the Rider (9-21) and had two hits in the doubleheader.

In the nightcap, La Salle (14-20) took advantage of four Rider errors, all in the fourth inning, scoring eight times enroute to the five inning win.

The Broncs were playing without rookies Brittany Eckett (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) and Amanda Centeno (Ventura, Calif./Buena) and sophomore Megan Kozlowski (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock-North) who all missed the doubleheader due to injury.

“We don't make excuses,” Carroll said.  “Everyone here is a ball player and is capable of doing the job.  I thought Clarissa did a nice job today and swung the bat well.  It was hard on some of the players because they haven't had as many games and as many at-bats but they all can play, they all deserve to play and as a team, we should have played better.  I just didn't like the energy level.”

Rider hosts Lehigh in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday at 3:00pm.

“The silver lining is that we get to come right back out tomorrow,” Carroll added.  “The players need to go out and relax and have some fun and today wasn't very much fun.  You can control the choice of what attitude you bring to the field and I hope we make a better choice on Wednesday.”
