POUGHKEEPSIE, NY?The Rider women's soccer season came to an end Sunday with a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference loss at Marist. “In the final five minutes of the game their goalie made a terrific save and with two minutes left we hit the post,” said Rider head coach Drayson Hounsome.

Rider (2-14-3, 1-7-1 MAAC) trailed 3-0 before staging a comeback. “We kept playing,” Hounsome said. “It was a nice rally in the second half.”

Freshman Jordan Bunch (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) took a pass from sophomore Kimberly Reichel (Chester, N.J./West Morris-Mendham) and scored her team-high fifth goal of the season. “We moved Jordan back up top and Kim played a lovely ball through to her and Jordan had a great finish,” Hounsome said.

Senior Kayla Devlin (Clifton, N.J./Clifton), playing in her final game, took a pass from sophomore Lauren Musumeci (Annandale, N.J./North Hunterdon) and scored with seven minutes left, cutting the lead to 3-2. “Moose had a great ball to Kayla,” Hounsome said.

For Devlin, it was her fifth goal of the season, sharing the team lead, and the 11th goal of her career.

Marist (5-14, 3-6 MAAC) scored twice in the final five minutes of the first half. “That set us back a little bit,” Hounsome said. Marist took a 3-0 lead with 22 minutes remaining. “We went on the offensive and they counter attacked and made it 3-0,” Hounsome said.

Marist out-shot Rider 17-9, including 8-1 in the first half.

Rider sophomore goalkeeper Alex Post (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West) made four saves. Post entered the game ranked sixth in the nation with 7.53 saves per game.

The Broncs lost 4-0 to Marist last season at Rider. Rider and Marist have now met 12 times with the Red Foxes holding an 8-4 advantage in the series that began in 1997.

“The effort and the energy the players gave this year was great,” Hounsome said. “With the addition of a few more key players it will be exciting in 2009. Next season cannot come soon enough.”
