LOUDONVILLE, NY?The Broncs lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game at Siena Friday. “We played okay against a very good team, we had some nice chances in the first half,” said Rider head coach Drayson Hounsome.
For Siena (13-1-3, 6-1-1 MAAC) Ashleigh Barone scored in the 32nd minute and the host Saints led 1-0 at the half. “We played a strong first half,” Hounsome said. “We defended well, we made one mistake and they scored off of it.”
Barone scored again in the 80th minute. “We tried to get the equalizer and they countered and scored again,” Hounsome said.
Siena scored again with less than five minute left in the second half. “We made mistakes and they capitalized on them,” Hounsome said.
The Saints out-shot Rider (2-13-3-, 1-6-1 MAAC) 18-4, including 13-1 in the second half. Rider sophomore Lauren Musumeci (Annandale, N.J./North Hunterdon) hade three of Rider's four shots. “Moose played well,” Hounsome said.
Rider sophomore goalkeeper Alex Post (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West) made five saves.
Rider and Siena have now met 13 times with Siena holding a 6-5-2 advantage in the series that began in 1997. Last season Siena defeated Rider 2-1 in Lawrenceville. The Broncs won on their last trip to Siena, defeating the Saints 1-0 in 2006.
The Broncs end the 2008 season Sunday at Marist. “If we reduce our individual mistakes we have a good chance,” Hounsome said.
