RIVERDALE, NY?The Broncs lost a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game at Manhattan Friday evening. “We gave a great effort, the players gave 100 percent, didn't leave anything on the field, we didn't quit, continued to work, and still lost 4-0,” said Rider head coach Drayson Hounsome.
Manhattan (5-5-1, 2-0 MAAC) took a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute of play and took a 2-0 lead with 5:38 left in the first half.
The Jaspers led 2-0 at the half.
Manhattan took a 3-0 lead eight minutes into the second half on a deflected corner kick, and went up 4-0 in the 73rd minute.
Manhattan out-shot Rider (1-9-2, 0-3 MAAC) 17-6, including 8-1 in shots on goal. “We were simply over-matched,” Hounsome said. “They were a better team. We played well. Every player on the field played well for us. They followed instructions. You really can't ask for more than that.”
Rider sophomore goalkeeper Alex Post (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West) made four saves. Post ranks 11th in the nation in saves per game at 7.72.
Manhattan defeated Rider 1-0 last season in Lawrenceville. The last time Rider beat Manhattan was in 2005.
Rider and Manhattan have now met 13 times with the Jaspers holding a 7-3-3 advantage in the series that began in 1997.
Rider travels to Saint Peter's for a MAAC game Sunday afternoon. “We have to recognize that we have to play a certain way to win,” Hounsome said.
