FAIRFIELD, CT?The Broncs lost to Fairfield in the 2007 season finale, a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game at Fairfield Sunday. “We lost to a very talented Fairfield team,” said Rider head coach Kevin Long. “They are extremely skilled and well coached.”

Rider freshman Kara Perkoski (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) took a pass from senior Amy Vinarsky (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) and scored third goal of the season to cut the lead to 4-1 with 20 minutes left to play.

The Stags (11-6-3, 6-1-2 MAAC) scored three times in the first 23 minutes of the game, the first two by Janna Breitenwischer, to take a commanding lead. “We gave away three goals on corner kicks,” Long said. “Otherwise I thought our team played fairly well, especially in the second half.”

Fairfield out-shot Rider (5-11-3, 1-8 MAAC) 18-8. “We were much more competitive in the second half,” Long said.

Rider freshman goalkeeper Alex Post (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West) made seven saves. Brett Maron made four saves for Fairfield.

Rider lost 3-0 to Fairfield last season. The Broncs are 3-10 against Fairfield in the series that began in 1997. “Our conference record is very disappointing,” Long said. “We say goodbye to some talented seniors but at the same time we are bringing back a very talented freshman group and I'm excited about that. We're very eager to start training again and get ready for next year.”
