LAWRENCEVILLE--The Bronc men's swimming & diving team defeated Lafayette College for the first time since the 1997-98 season, with Lafayette's women's swimming & diving defeating Rider on Wednesday.
For the Rider men (4-1), freshman Sam Engle (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) was involved in setting two Coppola Pool records with a time of 52:34 in the 100 yard backstroke and was the lead swimmer in the 200 yard medley relay which finished in a record time of 1:39.09. Engle also won the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 1:54.68. Freshman Bobby DeSandre (Trenton/Notre Dame) anchored the record setting 200 yard medley relay and won the 100 yard butterfly (52.34) and the 200 yard butterfly (1:54.24).
For the Rider women (2-4), junior Melissa Michalov (Horsham, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) won the 100 yard backstroke (1:00.95) the 50 yard freestyle (25:22) and the 200 yard backstroke in a time of 2:12.12. Sophomore Melissa Morrissy (Horsham, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) won the 1,000 yard freestyle (10:50.22), the 100 yard breaststroke (1:09.74) and the 200 yard breaststroke in 2:32.53. Freshman Briana Cohen (Pomona, NY/Ramapo) won the 100 yard freestyle (55:99), the 200 yard freestyle (2:02.07), and the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:28.08.
Also for the men, junior diver Rob Baier (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) finished first in the three-meter dive (200.48) and the one-meter dive (213.07), with sophomore Brandon Pierce (Milford, OH/Moeller) winning the 200 yard freestyle (1:47.52) and the 500 yard freestyle (4:55.85). Sophomore David Hoover (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) was the second swimmer on the record setting 200 yard medley relay and won the 100 yard breaststroke (1:03.20). Freshman Brad Lacey (Reading, PA/Wilson) was the third swimmer on the record setting 200 yard medley relay and won the 1,000 yard freestyle (10:05.77). Junior Jonathan O'Reilly (Aberdeen, MD/Aberdeen) won the 200 yard breaststroke in a time of 2:19.27 for the Broncs.
Also for the women sophomore Erin Moore (Northfield/Holy Spirit) finished first in both the one-meter dive (209.18) and the three-meter dive with a score of 201.75.
The Rider dive teams compete at Drexel on December 1st with the swim teams next competing at The Princeton Invitational on December 2nd at 9:00am.
