LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Headlined by All-MAAC First Team selection
Dimencio Vaughn (New York, NY/Calloway), the Rider University men's basketball team had four All-MAAC selections, the league office today announced. Joining Vaughn were
Stevie Jordan (Bensalem, PA/Conwell-Egan/API) on the Second Team and both
Frederick Scott (Munster, IN/Simeon [DePaul]) and
Jordan Allen (Dover, DE/Dover) on the Third Team.
Vaughn averaged a team-high 16.1 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game, finishing in the top eight in the league in all three categories, over 27 games, including 20 starts. He scored in double figures in 23 of 27 games and shot 51.4 percent, good for second on the team. He also shot 37.7 percent from beyond the three-point arc. He was a two-time MAAC Player of the Week on Feb. 12 and 19 in the midst of the Broncs' 10-game winning streak. He compiled three double-doubles on the year and scored a career-high 34 points to help Rider defeat Saint Peter's on Jan. 18. Vaughn becomes the first All-MAAC First Team honoree at Rider since Matt Lopez in 2014-15 and just the second in
Kevin Baggett's six years as Head Coach.
Jordan led the league in assists for the second-straight season at 6.0 assists per game, while moving into the top 10 all-time at Rider with 334 assists over the last two seasons. He also averaged 12.7 points and 1.6 steals per game with a 2.0 assist-to-turnover ratio in a team-high 32.6 minutes per game to finish among the league leaders. He had one double-double this year and finished in double-figures scoring on 20 occasions in 29 games played.
Scott averaged 13.0 points and tied both Vaughn and
Tyere Marshall (Philadelphia, PA/Martin Luther King/Putnam Science) for the team lead with 6.6 rebounds per game. The Lou Henson Award Watch List honoree shot a team-high 52.4 percent on the year, including 37.5 percent from long range. Scott provided one of the more memorable moments of the year with his game-winning three at the buzzer to defeat Penn State on Dec. 22. He compiled six double-doubles and scored in double figures 22 times in 30 games played.
Allen averaged 13.6 points per game, while shooting 39.5 percent from beyond the three-point arc and a team-high 83.9 percent from the free-throw line. The four-time MAAC Rookie of the Week scored in double figures 21 times, including the first 10 games of his collegiate career and five contests with 20 points or more. He scored a season-high 28 points as the Broncs pushed Providence in a four-point setback on Nov. 29.
The top-seeded Broncs begin MAAC Championship play in the quarterfinals on Friday at 7 p.m. against the winner of Thursday's 5 p.m. First Round contest between hOURglass rivals, No. 8 Monmouth and No. 9 Saint Peter's.
