What You Need to Know
- Rider returns home to face Niagara in their annual Kid's Day game on Thursday, January 18 at 11:00 am. The Broncs won their last home game, 61-45, against Canisius. Rider returns to the friendly confines of Alumni Gymnasium after back-to-back road Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) games.
- Niagara enters Thursday's matinee with a 7-10 overall record and a 4-2 mark in conference play after defeating Siena, 65-50, on Monday. The Purple Eagles have won three straight MAAC games and are 3-7 away from home this season. It's a two-headed attack for Niagara as senior Victoria Rampado and classmate Kayla Stroemple are the lone Purple Eagles averaging in double figures. Rampado leads the MAAC with over 20 points per game and she also ranks second in the league in rebounds (9.7 boards per game), field-goal percentage (48.1%) and free-throw percentage (83.2%). Stroemple is scoring more than 13 points a game and ranks fifth in MAAC in field-goal percentage thanks to knocking down 47.1% of her shots. The senior leadership is evident with Niagara, besides Rampado and Stroemple, fellow senior Jamie Sherburne leads the MAAC with nearly five assists per game and she is also tops in the league in free-throw percentage, hitting 86.0% of her attempts from the charity stripe. As a team, Niagara ranks in the top-three in the league in four different statistical categories. Niagara is shooting a MAAC-best 77.9% from the free-throw line. The Purple Eagles ranks second in the MAAC in both field-goal percentage (41.4%) and assists per game (15.2), while landing third in points per game (65.5).
- Niagara leads the all-time series with the Broncs, 25-20. Of late, Rider has had the edge. The Broncs have taken the last three meetings between the two. Under Head Coach
Lynn Milligan, Rider is 11-11 versus the Purple Eagles. Her 11 wins against Niagara are her second-most against a conference opponent during her tenure.
- Rider scored a pair of victories against Niagara last season. In December of 2016, the Broncs cruised to a 20-point win on the road. In the finale, Rider raced past Niagara, 62-41, in Lawrenceville. In the win on Senior Day,
Stella Johnson poured in 14 points off the bench and recorded five steals, while
Kamila Hoskova added 13 points and seven rebounds for the Broncs.
- Rider saw its three-game winning streak come to an end on Monday, January 15, with a 73-66 loss at Quinnipiac in a rematch of last year's MAAC Championship game. The Broncs shot over 54 percent (6-of-11) in the first quarter to build an early lead, but the Bobcats would respond. Freshman
Jaiden Morris led the Bronc attack with a career-high 18 points, while
Kamila Hoskova and
Stella Johnson also scored in double figures for Rider. Â
- Rider is outscoring conference opponents, 124-92, in the third quarter this season. The Broncs have outscored all six of their opponents coming out of halftime. Last time out against Quinnipiac, the team whittled a six-point halftime deficit down to just two points thanks to scoring 21 points.Â

Stella Johnson has been stellar in conference play this season. She is averaging 18 points, just under seven rebounds and more than two steals per game against MAAC opponents. She is also knocking down better than 49 percent (44-of-89) of her shots from the field over the last six games.
Lexi Posset has also turned it on during league play, averaging nearly 13 points and four assists per tilt.
- Rider outrebounded Quinnipiac, 34-26, on Monday evening. The Broncs pulled down nine offensive rebounds compared to just five for the Bobcats. This season, Rider is 4-4 when they outrebound their opponents, including 2-1 in conference play. The team has won the battle of the boards in each of their last three games.
- The Rider bench outscored the Quinnipiac reserves, 29-8, on Monday.
Lea Favre scored on nine points on 4-of-5 shooting off the bench, while freshman
Jaiden Morris scored a team-high 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting. The team is 4-4 this year when their subs score more than their opponents.
- Freshman
Jaiden Morris had a career night against Quinnipiac on January 15. She scored career-best 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting off the bench for the Broncs. Morris also tied career-bests in rebounds (6) and steals (2). She went off in the third quarter for Rider, scoring nine points and registering two steals. She was 2-of-4 from beyond the arc versus the Bobcats and she also hit both of her free-throw attempts.
- Three Broncs rank in the top-five in statistical categories in the MAAC this season.
Kamila Hoskova is third in free-throw percentage (81.8%) and third in minutes played per game (35.0), while
Lexi Posset is fourth in assists per game (3.6).
Stella Johnson is second in steals (42), second in steals per game (2.5) and fourth in points per game (15.0).
- Versus Quinnipiac on January 15,
Lexi Posset,
Stella Johnson and
Kamila Hoskova accounted for all 16 of the team's assists. Johnson and Hoskova each had five, while Posset tied a season-high with six dimes. This year, she's had five or more assists in a game five times.
Stella Johnson tied a career-high earlier this year with seven assists against Canisius, while Hoskova dished out a career-best six dimes at NJIT.
- Senior
Kamila Hoskova became the 22nd player in program history to score 1,000 career points on December 30 against Siena. She became the third Bronc in the last two years to reach the milestone and the second in the past two years to do so on a free throw against the Saints. Currently, Hoskova has 1,046 career points which ranks 19th all-time at Rider.
